👁️‍🗨️ What is a coronary computed tomography or coronary CT?

📌 A coronary computed tomography angiography (coronary CT) is a non-invasive cardiac imaging study that allows for the assessment of the arteries and structures of the heart ❤️. It is performed with a tomograph, a device that emits X-rays (so it should be indicated when appropriate), and uses intravenous iodinated contrast. Regarding the coronary arteries, it allows us to precisely determine their courses, the presence/degree of obstructions, and calcification, which also has prognostic value. We primarily use this study for prevention to establish a patient's risk, as well as to evaluate the presence of disease or establish risk in chronic coronary artery disease 💔. It is important that the heart rate is around 60 beats per minute for technically optimal results, which can be achieved by medication prior to or during the procedure.
